The Problem
Filing the I-693 form for immigration medical exams was a manual and time-consuming process. Immigrants had to:
Find the form online and fill it manually.
Search for USCIS-approved physicians.
Research and compare physician rates individually.
Book appointments separately, adding to the complexity.
There was no centralized platform to simplify this process, making it frustrating and inefficient for immigrants.
Who It Affected
Immigrants: Faced confusion, wasted time, and uncertainty while managing multiple tasks.
Physicians: Missed potential patients due to the lack of a streamlined booking system.
Why It Mattered
Immigrants were burdened with unnecessary stress while navigating a critical legal process.
A smoother, automated solution could enhance efficiency and reduce errors in form submissions.
The Solution
The Immigration App became a one-stop solution for the entire I-693 medical exam process. It automated and streamlined the journey by:
Converting the form-filling process into a conversational, chat-based interface.
Displaying cost estimates for medical exams based on user inputs.
Listing nearby USCIS-approved physicians with rates, helping users make informed decisions.
Enabling appointment booking directly through the app.
Key Features
My Design Process
Research & Insights
Conducted stakeholder interviews to understand the form-filling challenges immigrants faced.
Performed secondary research on the I-693 process and pain points.
Ideation & Wireframe
Iterated the old UI, which was form-heavy and monotonous.
Introduced chat-based interactions and a fun, guiding mascot to make the process engaging.
Sketched medium-fidelity wireframes to test the new UX flow.
Design & Prototyping
Designed high-fidelity screens with a clean, intuitive layout inspired by WhatsApp and ChatGPT’s interfaces.
Incorporated consistent branding and color schemes for visual appeal.
Added micro-interactions and animations (e.g., animated file uploads) to enhance the experience.
Developed a fully interactive prototype for stakeholder testing.
Usability Testing & Iterations
Since this was an iterated version, no further revisions were required.
The stakeholders approved the final design as it successfully addressed the initial pain points.
